  • Featured Image[Article 97]Safe Bondage Furniture Use – The “Cross”

    by Hans Meyer at Wasteland

The cross is a piece of bondage equipment that is frequently misunderstood. This of course is the result of the way religion portrays the use of the cross. Fact of the matter is that this well known “crucifixion” position is not only historically wrong, but also – as scientists have determined – technically impossible.

    A Bit Of History

Nobody really knows where the cross originates from, but we do know it was particularly popular with the ancient Romans, either in the form of the “traditional” cross or a pole with a cross bar on top, i.e. a T-shaped device.

Gallow shaped “crosses” have also been around for a very long time.

The cross was largely used the way medieval Europe used the pillory: i.e. to expose the subject, albeit in an extremely painful way.

Yes, quite a few victims died on the cross, not so much as a result of the contraption itself, but either from exhaustion or – more often – the violence of the crowd. The main objective however was to expose and torment, not to kill.

    Planning A Crucifixion Session

If you plan to “crucify” your submissive, you should first of all be aware of the fact that the position is extremely demanding and often painful, especially on the shoulders, arms and spine. Dislocated shoulders are a serious risk, so you will need to go slow and careful. You DO need to plan the session very well, establishing safe words and having all needed safety equipment standing by in case the scene needs to be stopped and the subject released quickly..

    Phase 1
Start with having the sub stand on something – a crate or a stool – in front of the cross with arms folded over the crossbar and behind the back. In this stage of the session you probably do not need to do much. Either just leaving her/him there like this or merely restraining the hands so she/he cannot go anywhere will be more than enough to get the sub’s utmost attention.

Many dominants tend to underestimate (and hence overlook) the psychological impact of things such as vulnerable exposure and having to await what is going to happen next.

That actually takes away half of the fun and probably more than half of the impact of the session or the punishment.

BDSM, bondage especially, is a waiting game where time will work to your advantage. Do use the time angle.

Exposure especially – combined with the fact that the ropes will leave your subject with no other option but to remain exposed and helpless – is what this is about and that is also where the significance of bondage lies.

    Phase 2
The actual crucifixion is first and foremost a matter of weight distribution. No matter what you do, it will be painful to some degree, so there is very little use in trying to go for a “soft” approach, since there is none.

Once crucified it will be demanding and painful, which of course is the objective.

However, that of course does not mean you should not care about the slave’s safety. Crucifixion is no different from any other suspension and needs to be done very carefully.

The legs need to be brought up and folded. A large number of windings need to be made around the ankle and upper leg and the suspending rope is in the exact middle of these windings, so the weight is distributed between both points.

This will now be her main weight support. A lot less weight and stress will be placed on the arms (as opposed to ancient Roman times) in order to prevent shoulder injury.

In this sense there is very little difference between oriental and western bondage techniques, it is just that the time factor especially is quite often overlooked in western bondage styles, whereas it plays a crucial role in oriental bondage.

    Phase 3
In phase 3 the wrists are being tied.  You have various options, but your best bet is to NOT tie the arms or wrists to the cross itself, but to only tie them to each other.

The main advantage of this is in the fact that it leaves the slave the option to distribute her weight and occasionally shift her weight a little. She will not be going anywhere, since she can’t, but it will help her to bear the crucifixion longer, i.e. the two of you will have more fun.

    bdsm-protocol2Standard Rules

Almost all parties and gatherings, as well as individual venues, have rules and many of them are pretty standard. This is what most of them will roughly look like:

Behavior outside the venue: Do not confront the general public with things, they do not want to see. Keep it down on outfits and BDSM-behavior in the parking lot. Reserve that for inside. If your outfit is very explicit, dress up inside (most venues will offer facilities to do so). Upon leaving, don’t honk and keep it down on noise in general. Other people will want to sleep.

No cameras! Never bring a camera of any kind, not even if you “only” plan to make pictures of the two of you. Bear in mind that others may have reputations or jobs at risk and that it will scare the living daylights out of many, if they even spot a camera. Continue reading  Post ID 66
